Ashworth Valley 75th Anniversary Cub Camp

As I hope you all know, we have a County Cub Camp weekend as Ashworth Valley on the 21st to 23rd June 2019. Joan Oddie has put together a brochure and booking form.

High Flying Explorer Scouts

Oldham Xtreme Explorers, based at St Thomas’ Moorside took to the skies 6000feet above the forest of Bowland. Our young people worked on the Air Activities Stage 5 badge with their flying instructors and then each were catapulted into the air for their first flying lesson.

Fourteen very nervous explorer scouts waited for their turn but once they had been up, taken control of the glider and retuned vis a smooth landing they were all eager to do it again.

What a great adventure for these young people and our thanks go out to all the instructors who gave up their time for Oldham’s young people.

Over the past 5 years Cheshire Scouts have been actively involved at the Carfest North event held for Children in Need in Cheshire.  As you may be aware the final batch of tickets for the 2018 go on sale this Thursday, and no doubt they will sell out within minutes…

As part of the team of Scout volunteers our members have the opportunity to save themselves the stress of clicking refresh on an internet browser as well as a few pounds in the wallet!! And get the chance to experience one of the largest national festival events on the calendar.

We are still looking for more people to join the team of volunteers – and so I would be grateful if you spread the word among your members and the wider Scouting family.

You may have seen that this year they are opening up the campsites to some campers on Thursday, so we have even more “shifts” to cover than we did last year.

If anyone asks about the event, I have put together a small website with some details of both the event itself and also our involvement with them:

If anyone would like to volunteer, please pass on the following link and ask them to sign up as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment:

(Scouts, Explorer scouts and Network).

This years Day of Excellence event willd be held at Giant Seat on Sunday 23rd September and involve various challenge and survival bases with the day concluding with a barbecue and presentation of the “Excellence” certificates.

The leaders and instructors would use the Saturday to set up the bases and stay overnight. There will need to be traffic control along the access road and a marque would be erected for the weekend. The site has been booked for the weekend.

The DCs are to be urgently asked to let the County have the names and details of all the Chief Scout’s Gold, Platinum and Diamond Awards and any Duke of Edinburgh Award gained since the last Day of Excellence event in January 2016 so to give some indication of likely numbers.

This will take place at the Prestwich, Radcliffe and Whitefield district headquarters on Sunday 13th May and the themes for the bases will follow last years. It was agreed that one base would incorporate mini pioneering.
